Instructions
Pre-heat your oven to 170 degrees celsius (gas mark 4).
Sift your flour and spices into a bowl (if your butter’s unsalted, add a pinch of salt too). Rub in the butter, then stir in the sugar and spices.
Mix in the egg and milk and stir until you have a thick, smooth batter. You might need to add a splash of extra milk. Stir in the apples.
Turn the mixture out into a well greased 20cm round cake tin. Bake for about an hour, until golden brown. Serve warm with custard or ice cream.
